This is a portrait of my son, commissioned by my mother-in-law. I wanted to put him in a kind of fantasy environment, the wood of Northern Sweden where he's born, and dressed as our little, half-mediterranian "emperor" of our house .
I must learn how to manage to get the .jpeg file as detailed as the original .psd, the final cropped jpeg alway look so muddy.
something I surely can say is that i took pictures of many references: the child, the frog, flowers and so on. For child's anatomy and resemblance, I sketched first him with pencil on paper, and, when I was satisfied, I scanned it to PS and then coloring him. This because I think it's easier to sketch by hand than with a stylus. Then I think real proffs can paint directly even without refs, but I'm not that skilled
just draw and draw! About hair, i found incredibly useful Linda Bergkvist's tutorials. Unfortunately her site has been hacked, but I suppose there are other good tutorials even here on DA.
I love the scenery of this - The frog-mount, the lake, the little magician playing with the dragonfly The colours are very impressive, almost fantastic! a little pun here ^__^

At least, must say it took for sure many many hours to paint this
